“What’s the first thing you want people to understand about you as you seek this office?” asked Healey.
Platta responded, “I’m a people person….I want the people to know people of Rockaway to know that they can call me to solve their daily problems…I want to make sure they have proper representation, that they are listened to, and their concerns are being addressed.”
Healey followed up by asking Platta about his credentials to serve as a State Senator.
Platta replied that his legal background and small business ownership give him unique qualifications.
“I want to make sure we are the city where people want to come to do business,” said Platta. “I own a law firm, I see how much taxes we pay, it turns a lot of people from wanting to open businesses. We cannot always override the city but we can influence their decision making.”
Platta specifically cited the city’s placement of homeless shelters as an issue he wants to work on.
“Homeless shelters are being filled in [a] completely irrational manner,” he said. “Homeless shelters with no impact studies … his issue is going to affect everyone.”
